Media Bar Toronto

HEY IT’S FRIDAY! Any plans tonight? If your thinking of heading out in Toronto’s club district, checking out a new venue, or just dancing off the work week with some friends, this post should be of interest to you!

After opening it’s doors earlier this spring, Media Bar Toronto has quickly gained a reputation for being one of the city’s newest hot spots. Naturally I was excited to find out that one of my girlfriends wanted to risk her big 24th on this new spot. None of us had been before, but with great reviews the expectations were high.

And they were exceeded! It wasn’t looking promising when we first reached our destination. To get to Media Bar you will find yourself in a sketchy back alley behind the Hyatt Regency off Peter Street. It was questionable, but the crowd seemed right.

After paying $15 cover (ugh) I was instantly relieved to walk through an old stairwell door into a beautifully renovated, modern lounge space. The theme inside Media Bar is vintage media, with antique camera’s and hints of old hollywood glamour covering the space. A modern twist on old hollywood decor creates an atmosphere of luxury and playfulness. The decor and service definitely sets the mood, and special touches don’t go unnoticed. I can’t tell you how excited my friend (the b-day girl) was to find out that the antique TV inside our booth table was going to light up with her name. Technology these days! I mean, the booths even have a place to charge your iphone. No more of this boiz:

Here are some pictures of the space, starting with paparazzi at the entrance:

So, that’s the venue, now what did I wear?

It’s been a while since I’ve visited Toronto’s club district so I was ready to do it right. Fortunately, I had just recently been on a mommy-and-me shopping date and had the perfect little party dress! I picked up the below BB Dakota Maynard Dress at M for Mendocino. Honestly, I’m not sure if it is actually the dress or the way I felt in it that made it so perfect. Either way, people noticed and I did get lots of compliments. #nailedit.

I love wearing dresses, but this is also definitely the type of place where jeans and a blouse are acceptable. In fact, majority of my friends were wearing jeans and heels.  BUT if you were to ask me… I say wear that little summer dress that makes you feel amazing. Media Bar has a beautiful interior and feel good atmosphere, so why not? Here’s a similar look to what I wore:

Your Best Dress
Zara leather jacket, 310 CAD / Steve Madden platform, 120 CAD / Big Buddha , 31 CAD / Swarovski heart necklace, 110 CAD / Initial jewelry, 66 CAD / Lomography Diana Mini Camera with Flash, 155 CAD / Essie formaldehyde free nail polish, 17 CAD
Overall, it was a good-looking crowd of well-dressed, young Toronto professionals. As much as everyone seems to be “over” the club scene, I think that media could be a game changer. Cover and drink prices were expensive, but pretty standard for the club district in Toronto. If you are into dancing, the DJ was playing a techno mix of all the latest dance beats.  I really enjoyed the crowd of people and the intimate environment. Would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a good time!
See you Friday?

I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one nowadays..
